Our Team

A minimum of five (5) and a maximum of nine (9) members are required for the WAVS Board of Directors, including at least one (1) from Eastern WA and three (3) from Western WA. Each Board member serves a three (3) year term unless otherwise noted in the WAVS Handbook. A term of office is July 1—June 30.

Any vacancy on the Board of Directors that occurs at the end of a three (3) year term is filled by a majority vote of all voting members present at the Annual Membership meeting. Potential Board Directors are nominated by the membership prior to election.

The officers of the association are the President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President (optional), Secretary, and Treasurer. All officers of the association are members of the Board except for the Secretary and Treasurer. The President and Vice-Presidents are elected at the Annual Membership Meeting and hold their office according to the terms defined in the WAVS Handbook. The Secretary and Treasurer are appointed by the President and approved by majority vote of the Board.

Contracted Services

In accordance with Article 6.8 of the WAVS Bylaws, the Board of Directors may choose to engage “Contracted Services” in order to achieve the goals of the association. These contracted services are a temporary position that are reviewed annually to determine if the position will be extended.
Examples of contracted service positions are: Lobbyist, Executive Director, Convention Coordinator, Legal Counsel, etc. The Convention Coordinator position is defined under the policies for Committees in the WAVS Member Handbook. Expectations and scope of work for all other contracted services are outlined in their respective independent contractor agreements. Terms of representation from WAVS Legal Counsel are defined through separate signed attorney contracts.
The contracted services, if not a volunteer position, will be an independent contractor and any salary and reimbursements must be negotiated with the Board of Directors through the President and budgeted accordingly.
